AETF WESTERN AREA FINAL - come and see the best in the South West

The All England Theatre Festival Western Semi Final is at the Merlin Theatre in Frome

... and there is an extra chance to see Somerset's entry for free!

The Winners of the Somerset County Shield for the Best One Act Play and Best Actor Awards in Somerset are pleased to offer one more performance of the play on the 9th May at 7.30pm at the Warehouse Theatre, Ilminster.

The cast and crew of the award winning The Dumb Waiter by Harold Pinter are thrilled to have the licence to publicly perform their dress rehearsal before the play sets off to The Merlin Theatre in Frome on the 11th May to compete in the Semi-finals of the All-England Theatre Festival.

It’s a classic play from the Theatre of the Absurd genre, expertly directed by Celia Crookes and superbly performed by Mick Glynn and Ken Steed and really it is not one to miss. Mick Glynn won the Best Actor award and Ken Steed was also nominated for Best Actor at the County Drama Festival which highlights the exceptionally high standard of acting skills in this production.

If you didn’t manage to get to see the winning performance in March at the Somerset County Drama Festival, or even if you did and would like to see it again, please make sure you head down to the Warehouse Theatre to watch this gripping play about two hitmen, who are waiting in a basement for the details of their next assignment. There is comic banter and tension as the two wait and then quite strangely, the dumb waiter at the back of the room starts to deliver food orders. Who is operating the dumb waiter and why and who is going to be the next victim? Of course, all becomes clear by watching the play.

So, come along to watch the Ilminster Entertainment Society team give a polished and professional performance and encourage them as they prepare for the semi-final. You never know – you could be watching the play that wins the best one act play in the West of England in 2024!

There will be no admission charge to watch but a cash donation to help with the costs of taking the play to Frome will gratefully be received. The bar will be open from 7.00 pm and at the end for an after-show social.

And the big event itself - the semi-final - is in the Merlin Theatre Frome on SATURDAY 11 MAY - 2PM AND 7PM. It is worth worth being in the audience to see the best of the best.
